A sustainable city is planned and designed to minimize environmental impact. There is no generally accepted definition of a sustainable city, but the city should meet residents’ needs without compromising the ability of future residents to meet their needs. Land use planning may favor development around mass transit stations, for example. The city may be designed to produce most of its own food. Dozens of cities around the world have sustainability plans. A few developments, such as Masdar City in Abu Dhabi and Songdo in South Korea, are designed from the start for sustainability.
